Kuwait Warns Against Use of Red Heart Emojis on WhatsApp

Kuwait has warned against the use of red heart emojis on messaging apps including WhatsApp and individuals who use these emojis can receive fines and jail time.

A similar warning has been given in Saudi Arabia.

Haya Al Shalahi, a Kuwaiti lawyer, explained that sending a red heart emoji to a girl on WhatsApp or any other social networking platform is now seen as a crime of 'incitement to debauchery' in Kuwait.

Whoever is found guilty of this crime will be imprisoned for up to two years and will receive a fine of not more than KD 2,000.

On the other hand, offenders in Saudi Arabia could potentially receive a prison time of two to five years, with a fine of SAR 100,000.

Users have been discouraged from using this emoji to curb online behavior that is perceived as inappropriate or offensive.
