Six Killed, Nine Injured In Kuwait Riggae Fire

Riggae residents woke up to a heartbreaking scene early Sunday morning when a fire broke out in a residential building, claiming six lives and injuring nine others. According to Kuwait Fire Force (KFF), three people died at the scene and three more passed away at the hospital. The injured, mostly of Asian and African nationalities, suffered from burns and suffocation.

Fast Response Saved Lives

Firefighting teams rushed to the scene, arriving within just four minutes. They worked quickly to control the flames and rescue people trapped inside, using fire ladders to lower them from upper floors. Videos shared on social media showed the heroic efforts of firefighters and emergency responders pulling residents out of the burning building.

Teams from the Shuwaikh Industrial Area, Ardiya fire stations, and search and rescue units were all involved in containing the fire, which reportedly broke out in two apartments in the building.

Emergency Teams on the Ground

Fifteen ambulances were dispatched to the scene, and injured individuals were either treated on-site or transported to hospitals including Al-Sabah, Farwaniya, Mubarak Al-Kabeer, and Jahra. Public security, rescue, and traffic personnel also supported the emergency operation.

Brigadier General Mohammad Al-Gharib, Director of Public Relations and Media at KFF, confirmed that the fire was extinguished in record time. He also noted that investigations are now underway to determine what caused the blaze.

Governor Visits the Injured

Farwaniya Governor Sheikh Athbi Nasser Al-Athbi Al-Sabah visited Farwaniya Hospital to check on the condition of the injured. He was accompanied by key security and medical officials, including Brigadier General Mohammed Mutlaq Al-Mutairi and Dr. Ali Al-Mutairi, the hospital’s director.

During the visit, the governor received updates from the medical staff and instructed authorities to provide full support to those affected. He also expressed condolences to the families of the victims and praised the swift and courageous efforts of the firefighters and emergency teams.
