Kuwait International Airport's Terminal 1 (T1) sustained significant structural damage on Wednesday following a targeted drone and missile strike amid escalating Iranian aggression. The attack left several individuals injured and forced authorities to immediately suspend all airport operations.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) activated its emergency response plan moments after the incident, which caused extensive damage to airport facilities and critical operational infrastructure. GACA spokesperson Abdullah Al-Rajhi confirmed that relevant authorities swiftly executed approved emergency procedures to prioritize the safety of passengers, staff, and remaining facilities.
"All flights have been suspended and diverted to alternative airports until further notice while security and technical assessments are carried out," Al-Rajhi stated. He noted that specialized technical teams have already commenced a comprehensive inspection and evaluation of the damage to both physical facilities and operational systems. The scope of the assessment will determine the necessary repairs before the airport can safely resume normal operations.
Al-Rajhi emphasized that the safety of passengers and employees remains the highest priority, assuring the public that regular updates would be provided as more information becomes available.
Colonel Saud Abdulaziz Al-Atwan, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, confirmed that a number of enemy drones targeted the passenger terminal as part of the broader Iranian attack. The strike resulted in serious material damage to the terminal building and caused injuries to several individuals, all of whom received immediate and necessary medical treatment.

"The Kuwaiti Armed Forces are closely monitoring the situation in coordination with relevant authorities and remain fully prepared to respond to any developments," Al-Atwan said. He reaffirmed the military's commitment to taking all necessary measures to safeguard the country's security, stability, and vital infrastructure.
The attack represents a significant escalation in the regional conflict, directly impacting Kuwait's primary international gateway and causing widespread disruption to air travel. As authorities work to secure the site and assess the full extent of the damage, the duration of the flight suspension remains undetermined.
