Kuwait to Require Influencer Licenses for Social Media Ads

Kuwait’s Ministry of Information is tightening the rules on social media advertising. Under a new Media Law, influencers will need official licenses before promoting products or services online.

Why the change?

The move comes after rising complaints about misleading influencer ads, especially in areas like real estate and health products. The new rules aim to protect consumers from fraud and add accountability to the booming influencer market.

How it works

Influencers and companies must prove that any product they promote is legally approved. Ads will need clearance from relevant ministries—for example, medical ads must pass the Ministry of Health, while real estate promos need approval from Commerce and Industry.

What’s next

The law gives authorities the power to monitor social media accounts, verify influencers, and refer violators to prosecutors. Accounts will be assessed by reach and impact, and everyone will have a grace period to comply before penalties kick in.
