The ruling came from the Court of Cassation on Monday, confirming earlier decisions by the Criminal Court and the Court of Appeal. The student was found guilty of posting politically sensitive and offensive content about the Emir and Kuwait’s political system using a fake social media account.

According to prosecutors, the posts included a series of comments and articles critical of the country’s leadership, which they claimed violated national laws that protect the Emir's dignity and uphold public order.

During the trial, the student denied the charges. She told the court her account had been compromised by an expat living abroad, who allegedly threatened her and warned her not to delete the controversial posts.

Despite her claims, the court ruled her responsible for the account and the content published through it, pointing to digital evidence submitted by the prosecution.

This case highlights Kuwait’s strict laws regarding political expression online, especially when it involves criticism of the ruling family or calls for political change.
