Kuwait to Cancel 2,400 Teacher Visas: Reports

Kuwait is reportedly planning to revoke the work permits of over 2,400 teachers and replace them with Kuwaiti nationals.

According to local media reports, the nation's educational authorities have asked the Interior Ministry to revoke the residency permits of about 1,900 teachers.

There have been 500 more teachers who submitted their resignation. These teachers have been given three months to clear any unpaid bills and determine their legal status in Kuwait.

The reports did not disclose any reason for the move.

Foreigners make up nearly 3.4 million of Kuwait’s overall population of 4.6 million.

According to official statistics, the number of new expats hired by Kuwaiti government agencies fell by 70% in 2022 compared to the previous four years, while the number of Kuwaitis employed increased.
