Kuwait's Ministry of Social Affairs has told cooperative societies to end the employment of all workers aged 70 and above within 30 days. The move is part of efforts to speed up Kuwaitisation in the sector.

The ministry asked cooperatives to complete all legal procedures, pay end-of-service benefits and other financial dues, and submit a list of affected employees before the deadline.

The decision is part of a wider plan to increase the number of Kuwaiti nationals in supervisory and support roles. It also aims to create more job opportunities for younger people looking for work in the country.

The source said the measure also aims to reorganise hiring inside cooperative societies. It comes after concerns about past appointments made because of elections or personal connections in some boards.

Officials say the step is meant to support fairness, equal opportunity, and better work performance across the cooperative sector.
