KD 150 Fee Introduced for Visit-to-Work Visa Transfer

Kuwait’s Interior Ministry said on Sunday that certain groups of foreigners can now change their entry visit visas into regular residency permits after paying a KD 150 fee. Domestic helpers are exempted from this fee.

The decision was issued by First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah and published in the official gazette Kuwait Al-Youm. It is effective immediately.

According to the by-laws of the residency law, five categories of expatriates are allowed to transfer their entry visa into a regular residency permit after paying the KD 150 fee. These include expats who enter Kuwait on government-issued entry visas from ministries, public establishments, or other government bodies.

The rule applies only to university degree holders and people with technical specializations, according to the decision.

The transfer also covers dependents of legal expat residents who enter Kuwait on dependent visas or tourist visas. It also applies to expats who came on work visas and started residency procedures but had to leave Kuwait for an emergency and stayed outside the country for less than one month.

The decision also includes other cases not mentioned in the list, based on the discretion of the director general of the residency department. Domestic helpers and similar cases are allowed to make the transfer without paying the fee.
