IndiGo Kuwait–Hyderabad Flight Diverted to Mumbai After 'Human Bomb' Threat

An IndiGo flight travelling from Kuwait to Hyderabad was diverted to Mumbai on Tuesday after authorities received an email warning that a “human bomb” was on board, prompting an immediate security response.

IndiGo Flight 6E1234, an Airbus A321-251NX, departed Kuwait at 1.56am and was scheduled to land in Hyderabad, but was rerouted midair under emergency protocols. The aircraft landed safely at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport at 8.10am, where bomb squads, security agencies and emergency teams were already prepared.

According to reports shared by News18 and ANI, the threat came through a detailed message sent to officials at Hyderabad airport. Authorities treated it as a “specific and credible threat,” leading to the diversion. Passengers and crew were confirmed safe upon landing.

The flight was taken to an isolation bay where teams began a full sweep of the aircraft, luggage and cabin areas. As of Tuesday morning, IndiGo had not released a formal statement regarding the diversion or the status of the travellers, and authorities have not disclosed additional details about the contents of the threat or the ongoing inspection.

The incident follows a series of recent bomb threats targeting flights and public institutions across India. On Monday, a private school in Thane district received an early-morning threat via email, later determined to be a hoax. On November 23, a Bahrain–Hyderabad flight was similarly diverted to Mumbai after a threat that was ultimately found to be false.

Government data shows Indian airlines received around 728 bomb threats in 2024. In 2025, approximately 100 threats have already been reported, with 65 logged by July. According to the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), airlines recorded 881 hoax bomb threats between 2022 and July 20, 2025.

Authorities continue to investigate Tuesday’s threat as security checks remain underway in Mumbai.
