Kuwait Reports One Injured After Missile and Drone Interceptions
Kuwait intercepts missiles and drones amid rising regional tensions.
Kuwait's armed forces successfully intercepted multiple projectiles that entered the country's airspace early Thursday, including three ballistic missiles, one cruise missile and 10 drones, according to the Defence Ministry.
One person was injured during the attack and is currently receiving medical treatment in stable condition. The ministry confirmed the projectile interceptions caused material damage after debris fell in several locations across the country.
Military spokesman Major General Saud Abdulaziz Al Otaibi said Kuwaiti air defences engaged all incoming threats successfully.
Strong Condemnation from Kuwaiti Authorities
Following the incident, Kuwait's Foreign Ministry issued a statement strongly condemning what it described as continued Iranian aggression against its territory. The ministry characterized the attack as a "serious violation" of Kuwait's sovereignty.
"The attack reflected a recurring pattern of hostile actions and constituted a direct threat to Kuwait's security and stability," the Foreign Ministry said. It further stated the incident represented a breach of international law, the UN Charter and Security Council Resolution 2817.
Regional Tensions Rising
The Kuwaiti government warned the latest incident marked a "dangerous escalation that could worsen regional tensions, threaten peace and security in the Gulf, and undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve disputes through peaceful means."
Kuwait stressed that its security and sovereignty were a "red line" and stated it "reserved the right to take all necessary measures to protect its territory and national security in accordance with international law and the UN Charter."
Regional Context
The interception comes amid heightened tensions in the Persian Gulf region, with multiple countries reporting airspace violations over recent months. Kuwait has maintained a position of neutrality while strengthening its defensive capabilities in response to regional instability.
No additional details were released regarding the origin of the projectiles or specific targeting rationale. Further information is expected as investigations continue.
