Defense Minister Visits Kuwait Airport to Inspect Damage from Drone Attack
Sheikh Abdullah inspects site after drone strike ignites fire at fuel tanks; authorities confirm no injuries and limited material damage.
Kuwait's Minister of Defense, Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al Salem Al Sabah, personally visited Kuwait International Airport on Thursday to inspect the aftermath of a drone attack that targeted aircraft refueling tanks and sparked a significant fire.
The Ministry of Defense confirmed that the drone strike caused a fire at the fuel storage facilities, but emphasized that the damage was limited to material losses. Crucially, officials reported no injuries among airport staff, military personnel, or civilians during the incident.
A coordinated emergency response was immediately launched to contain the blaze. Firefighters, working in close cooperation with the Kuwaiti Army, the National Guard, and the Kuwait Oil Company, successfully brought the fire under control. The swift action of these joint forces prevented the incident from escalating further and ensured the safety of the surrounding infrastructure.
Sheikh Abdullah's visit underscored the government's commitment to assessing the security breach firsthand and overseeing the restoration of operations at the nation's primary aviation hub. While the attack disrupted airport activities temporarily, authorities have stated that efforts are underway to resume normal flight schedules as soon as safety inspections are completed.
The incident marks another escalation in the ongoing regional tensions, with the airport serving as a strategic target. Kuwaiti security forces have since heightened vigilance across critical infrastructure sites to prevent further attempts.
