All You Need to Know About E-scooter Riding Regulations in Dubai

Recently, e-scooter ownership has spread tremendously in various countries, due to it being much less expensive than owning a car in addition to being economical and fast, but driving e-bikes involves various risks, the most important of which is collision with cars and pedestrians, and in an attempt by the rational Government of Dubai to maintain the lives of its people, it has announced a ban on e-scooters in two parts of Dubai Marina, including the Marina Walk and Marina Mall Walk.

Although there was no official announcement, signs were placed in these areas warning that e-scooters, as well as bicycles, roller blades, and skateboards, are banned.

Safety Measures Taken to Prevent E-scooters in Dubai

The ban appears to be the latest safety measure to prevent riders from colliding with pedestrians or each other, and to ensure that individuals abide by the new rule, security guards regularly patrol the marina but tend not to approach anyone unless they are riding irresponsibly or in one of the newly restricted areas.

The decision to impose the ban also included the Roads and Transport Authority's announcement that riders need a permit, which is issued free of charge to all residents and tourists who wish to use e-scooters throughout Dubai.

Where Can You Ride Your E-scooter?

The initial phase of e-scooter rental in Dubai covers 10 locations, including Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Dubai Internet City, Al Rigga, 2nd December Street, City Walk, the communities of Palm Jumeirah, Al Qusais, Al Mankhool, and Al Karama as well as dedicated cycle tracks.

Safety Conditions for E-scooter Riding

To preserve the lives of bike users and pedestrians, the government has announced safety conditions when driving an e-scooter, as follows:

• E-scooter users must be at least 16 years old
• Commitment to park in designated places
• Never carry anything that causes the e-scooter to become unbalanced, including any passengers
• Adhere to exemplary safety conditions while riding

What Fines May Riders Get?

There are many violations resulting from driving an e-scooter, including failure to use specific roads, reckless riding, not having a permit, or not reporting an accident, and fines can range from AED 200 to AED 300 depending on the type and cause of the violation.
