Kuwait Nationals Stripped of Citizenship Must Surrender Passports Immediately

Kuwait’s Interior Ministry has officially ended the grace period for those who lost their citizenship under Article 8 of the nationality law. Notifications went out via the Sahel app, telling affected individuals that their Kuwaiti passports are no longer valid for travel.

What Happens Next

Those impacted must surrender their passports to the General Directorate of Nationality and Travel Documents. People currently outside the country can still return to Kuwait, but they’ll need to give up their passports immediately upon arrival at airports, ports, or land borders.

Legal Trouble if You Don’t

The ministry has made it clear—anyone who refuses to hand in their passport could face serious legal consequences. This move is part of a broader push to tighten nationality regulations and enforce documentation rules across the country.

A Wide Crackdown

Reports say more than 50,000 people have already lost their citizenship as Kuwait continues its nationwide crackdown on forged or illegally obtained nationalities.
