Kuwait Sees 83% Drop in Traffic Violations After New Law

Kuwait has experienced a dramatic 83% reduction in traffic violations since its new traffic law was enforced. The Ministry of Interior reported that in May 2025, only 28,464 violations were recorded, compared to 168,208 violations in May 2024. Weekly violations have also dropped from around 60,000 to just 18,000, signaling a major improvement in driver behavior.

Safer Roads with Fewer Fatalities

The tougher traffic law is not just reducing violations but also saving lives. Fatalities from road accidents fell by 55% year-on-year. There were only 10 deaths in May 2025, down from 22 in May 2024. This shows the law’s positive impact on road safety.

Risky Behaviors Plummet

High-risk violations like using mobile phones while driving and not wearing seatbelts dropped sharply by 75%. The number of such offences fell to 22,574 in May 2025 from 89,153 the previous year, a clear sign that drivers are taking the new rules seriously.

Harsher Penalties Drive Change

The Ministry credits the drop in violations to stricter enforcement and a strong public awareness campaign. The new law includes hefty fines up to KD5,000 and jail time for repeat offenders. This combination appears to be changing how drivers behave on the roads.
