Kuwait is cracking down on the dangerous practice of leaving children unattended in parked vehicles. Starting soon, anyone caught leaving a child under the age of 10 alone in a car will face serious consequences. The penalty includes a hefty fine of 500 dinars (approximately AED 5,958) and a potential jail sentence of up to six months.

Traffic Violation for Leaving Kids Alone in Cars

Brigadier Mohammed Al Subhan, the head of the Unified Gulf Traffic Week 2025 Committee, confirmed that leaving a child under 10 in a parked vehicle is now classified as a traffic violation. This move is aimed at protecting children from harm, especially in hot weather conditions or unsafe situations inside the car.

Under the Child Protection Law, the driver will be held fully accountable if harm comes to the child due to their negligence. The penalties are clear: a fine, jail time, or both, depending on the circumstances.

Strict Rules for Child Safety in Vehicles

In addition to the fine for leaving children in vehicles, there are stricter rules for child safety. Children under the age of 10 are now required to sit in the back seat of vehicles, and they must be properly secured with a seatbelt or an appropriate child seat. These measures are part of Kuwait’s ongoing efforts to enhance child safety on the road.

AI Cameras and Automated Traffic Violations

Kuwait is also leveraging technology to enforce these rules. Traffic officers can issue penalties directly, but AI cameras are now capable of detecting seatbelt violations. All offenses, including leaving children unattended in vehicles, will be processed electronically. Violators will be notified through the "Sahel" app, making the enforcement process quicker and more efficient.

These new regulations are an important step toward ensuring the safety of children and improving overall road safety in Kuwait. By holding drivers accountable for their actions, the government is sending a strong message that child protection is a top priority.

So, whether you're driving with your child or simply passing by, remember that leaving a child unattended in a parked car is no longer just a bad decision—it's a violation with serious penalties. Stay safe and keep those little ones secure!
