Security Measures Implemented for Kuwait's 2026 National Day Celebrations

With Kuwait’s National Day fast approaching on 25 February 2026, a date that also precedes Liberation Day, authorities have stepped up preparations to ensure that festivities proceed safely and in an orderly manner.

Top officials within the Ministry of Interior (MoI) have confirmed that security personnel across relevant sectors are fully prepared and primed for deployment during the celebrations.

In a high-level security meeting chaired by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior Major General Abdulwahab Ahmed Al-Wuhaib, key operational plans were reviewed and finalised to secure public spaces, manage traffic flows and uphold legal and civic standards throughout the national festivities.

Major General Al-Wuhaib emphasized the importance of constant vigilance and strict law enforcement during the holiday period, warning that security forces will take firm action against behaviors deemed risky or disruptive. Authorities are particularly focused on preventing unsafe public conduct such as spraying water, obstructing traffic, or placing oversized flags on vehicles that block drivers’ visibility — all of which are considered legal violations that pose safety risks.

He also highlighted the need for security personnel to balance enforcement with assistance, particularly towards elderly citizens and people with special needs, ensuring that celebrations are both safe and accessible.

Security plans include traffic coordination and patrols across areas expected to host large crowds and public events. With an anticipated influx of residents and visitors participating in National Day festivities, authorities aim to maintain smooth traffic flow, reduce congestion and minimise potential safety hazards on major roads and public gathering points.

Officials also underscored the symbolic importance of National Day and Liberation Day as expressions of national pride and unity. Al-Wuhaib urged the public to celebrate responsibly, abiding by laws and respecting public order in ways that reflect the values and spirit of Kuwaiti society.

In addition, municipal authorities have issued guidelines urging attendees to maintain cleanliness in public spaces and avoid practices that could pose hazards or damage property,  including discouraging the use of balloons and water guns, as part of a broader effort to ensure celebrations reflect civic awareness and patriotism.

As Kuwait prepares for one of its most defining national holidays, the combined efforts of security agencies and community cooperation aim to create a festive yet safe atmosphere for this year’s landmark events.
