Kuwait Drops Visa Rules, Brings Back 3-Month Family Visit

Planning a trip to see family in Kuwait? It just got a whole lot simpler. Kuwait has rolled out major visa updates, including the return of the 3-month family visit visa — and dropped a bunch of the old headaches that came with it.

What’s new with the visa?

  • Visitors can now stay up to 3 months

  • Option to extend for 6 months or even a year

  • No more mandatory national airline booking

  • No university degree needed for entry

  • Family visit visas now include relatives up to the fourth degree

And if you’re flagged for any security issue, you’ll be notified right away so you can sort it out — no surprise rejections.

Why the sudden change?

Kuwait’s First Deputy PM, Sheikh Fahad Al Sabah, said these reforms are part of a bigger plan to open the country up to more tourism and global visitors. And with a new airport in the works, Kuwait is eyeing a return to the regional travel spotlight.

“Airlines should market themselves,” he said. “The state isn’t in that business anymore.”

Visa fees still TBD

The new fees haven’t been locked in just yet, but the structure is already under review and will be approved soon by the Council of Ministers.

Tourism is getting a glow-up

Tourism isn’t just a side hustle for Kuwait anymore — it’s becoming a core part of the economy. Minister of Information Abdulrahman Al Mutairi says it’s all part of the big Vision 2035 plan.

Here’s what’s coming:

  • A new digital platform called “Visit Kuwait”

  • Hosting the UN World Tourism Committee in 2026

  • Repping Kuwait at Expo Osaka 2025

  • A culture push with events like the Kuwait International Book Fair and “I Am the Author”, a creative writing initiative for kids
