The incident occurred on the evening of Monday, September 1, 2025, near the intersection of Route 206 and Quaker Bridge Road. At approximately 7:54 p.m., a Toyota passenger car, driven by 66-year-old John E. Hawley of Marlton, was traveling westbound on Quaker Bridge Road when it collided with a Ford F-350 pickup truck headed south on Route 206.

Fatalities and Injuries

The impact caused the Toyota to overturn and plunge into Atsion Lake, located just off the highway and protected by a guardrail. Tragically, both John Hawley and his passenger, Theresa Hawley, also 66 and from Marlton, died from injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the Ford F-350, a resident of Tabernacle, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

Emergency Response and Road Closure

Emergency responders arrived promptly, but were unable to save the occupants of the overturned vehicle. Route 206 was closed for several hours while police and rescue crews conducted their operations and began the crash investigation. Residents and motorists were advised to avoid the area as crews worked to clear the scene.
