Subvariant of COVID-19 Detected in Kuwait

The XBB.1.5 subvariant of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 was detected in Kuwait according to the Ministry of Health.

Genetic tests were conducted to detect which subvariant of Omicron was present.

The ministry said indicators of the epidemiological situation in the country are witnessing stability, renewing calls for adherence to prevention guidelines, especially in light of preliminary information regarding the ease of transmission of this variant, which was discovered according to genetic analyses in more than 30 countries around the world.

The ministry also pointed out the emergence of such variants is expected and does not cause concern, adding there is close follow-up of the epidemiological situation by the advisory team on coronavirus developments
