Kuwait to Shut Down Private Schools in Residential Areas by 2028

Kuwait’s Municipal Council has officially approved a proposal to cancel the licenses of private schools operating inside residential neighborhoods. And the deadline is set — all schools must stop operating in these areas by the end of the 2027/2028 academic year.

What the New Rule Means

The decision wipes out all previous approvals that allowed private schools to function inside private housing. Once the deadline hits, these schools must completely shut down at their current locations.

The Ministry of Education will be in charge of enforcing the closures and managing the transition.

Why This Change Is Happening

The move aims to reorganize the education landscape and make sure schools operate only in proper, purpose-built facilities — meaning safer buildings, better infrastructure, and less disruption inside residential zones.
