Drone Attacks on Kuwaiti Border Posts Spark Gulf Condemnation

Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states have joined in condemning drone attacks on Kuwaiti border posts that originated from Iraqi territory, escalating concerns over regional security. The Saudi foreign ministry issued a statement on Friday denouncing the attacks as an act of aggression.

The Kuwaiti military confirmed that two drones coming from the direction of Iraq targeted border posts along its northern frontier. While the strikes caused material damage, no casualties were reported.

“This morning, two of Kuwait’s northern land border posts were targeted in a criminal act of aggression involving two explosive-laden drones guided by fiber-optic cables, originating from the Republic of Iraq, resulting in material damage but … no human casualties,” the military said in its statement.

Bahrain and the UAE also expressed strong condemnation of the attacks, labeling them a “flagrant violation” of Kuwait’s sovereignty and international laws, and warning of the threat posed to national security and stability.

Bahrain’s foreign affairs ministry called on Iraq to urgently address the incident, demanding “immediate and decisive action” to apprehend those responsible and ensure accountability. The statement further urged increased regional and international cooperation to deter future aggression and safeguard collective security.

Regional leaders and organizations echoed these sentiments. Mohammed Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, described the attacks as “criminal acts,” while Jasem Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, emphasized that such actions represent “a flagrant violation of the principles of good neighborliness and all international laws and norms.”

Gulf countries are calling on Iraq to take decisive measures to prevent a recurrence of such incidents and ensure accountability for parties involved, underscoring the necessity of maintaining regional stability.
