Kuwait’s Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs is tightening control over mosque security. A new directive now bans anyone from installing or managing surveillance cameras in mosques without official approval from the Ministry.

Ministry Takes Full Charge

Under the new rule, only the Ministry can authorize and oversee camera systems. The goal? To protect mosque facilities, ensure safety, and keep everything under proper administrative supervision.

The circular, sent to all imams and muezzins, also warns that unauthorized cameras must be reported—and anyone who fails to do so could face legal consequences.

Donations and Old Systems Included

Even donated cameras aren’t exempt. Any offers to install or give surveillance equipment must first go through the Ministry. Plus, existing unapproved systems must be disclosed immediately for review.

This move is part of Kuwait’s wider push to standardize mosque operations, boost transparency, and make sure all surveillance follows national regulations.
