Kuwait is stepping up regulations this Ramadan, banning the use of external loudspeakers at mosques for daily prayers, taraweeh, and qiyam. Authorities say the move is part of a broader framework to balance worship practices with public order and neighborhood peace.

Loudspeaker Restrictions

The Ministry of Social Affairs confirmed that no loudspeakers are allowed outside mosques during Ramadan. The goal is to maintain a peaceful environment while ensuring prayer calls stay respectful to surrounding areas.

Tighter Rules for Donations

Charitable giving will also face stricter oversight:

  • Collecting donations in mosques, malls, public squares, or unlicensed areas is prohibited.

  • Entities must get prior ministry approval to collect funds.

  • Approved donations must go into official bank accounts of licensed charities, ensuring transparency and accountability.

Organizing Iftar Gatherings

Communal iftar meals at mosques now require formal approval:

  • Organizers must submit requests to the relevant department.

  • Meals should be served no more than 30 minutes before the call to prayer and cleared immediately after.

  • Imams oversee the events, while responsibility lies with organizers.

Why the Changes

The ministry says the new rules aim to organize religious and charitable activities, prevent unauthorized fundraising, and maintain public order during Ramadan. Charitable donations remain encouraged, but they must go through official, regulated channels to safeguard transparency and public trust.

Authorities urged individuals and organizations to follow the regulations carefully throughout the holy month to avoid violations.
