Kuwait just tightened its weapons laws — and it's not just about guns anymore. Knives, air guns, machetes, and even blunt objects are now officially regulated under a new decree aimed at boosting public safety.
What’s banned and where?
Under the new law (Decree No. 90 of 2025), carrying any kind of weapon — yes, even licensed ones — is banned in places like:
-
Public areas and events
-
Government buildings
-
Markets and malls
-
Schools and mosques
-
Public transport
-
Anywhere else the Ministry of Interior says so
Unless you’ve got a really good reason (and proof), you're not allowed to carry weapons in these spaces.
What happens if you break the rules?
-
1 year in jail + KD 1,000 fine for carrying in a restricted area
-
2 years in jail for using a weapon to scare people in public
-
KD 5,000 fine + possible business suspension if you sell knives or air guns without a license
-
Repeat offenders? Double the trouble
Also, if you're caught — say goodbye to your weapon. It’ll be confiscated.
Businesses, you’re on notice too
If you import, sell, or even market knives or air-powered guns, you need a special license now. No license = big fines and risk of closure.
Who's still allowed to carry?
Cops, soldiers, National Guard, and fire services — when they’re on duty. The Interior Minister can also grant exceptions if needed.
When does it kick in?
You’ve got three months from the day the law is published in the official gazette to get your stuff sorted. Own a knife or BB gun already? Check the rules and apply for a license if required.
