You do not need to own a dog and dedicate the rest of your life to grooming it, long walks, and dog training classes--you can fit some breeds into their small management footprint, living in an apartment or in the first-owner schedule, and finding their place in a hectic life. It has taken me 45 years to learn that low-maintenance is all about keeping coats short and shedding, exercising in moderation, walking two 20-minute walks a day, having a chilly temperament not prone to drama at a separation, and no expensive trips to the vet. They are not indolent lapdogs, but versatile pets who like keeping things simple, such as weekly brush, balanced kibble, and playtime bursts, and spending more time on Netflix or family meals. Jump over high-energy herders or fluff-machines who must be blown out every day; these eleven are clever, loving, and independent, without it seeming to be any effort. It is ideal among the urban, old-aged, or anybody who wants to experience happiness without the list of chores.
