Trump Evacuated Amid Shooter Incident at Washington Gala

Armed guards fired at a gunman who managed to charge through a security checkpoint near the ballroom of a hotel where former President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, top government officials, and hundreds of guests had gathered for a high-profile event.

"They seem to think he was a lone wolf, and I feel that too," he added, referencing a video he had posted showing the gunman sprinting past security as guards drew their firearms. The suspect was detained at the scene.

Trump revealed that one Secret Service officer had been shot at close range but did not appear to be critically injured. He described the venue as "not a particularly secure" facility, raising questions about the adequacy of security measures in protecting high-profile individuals.

According to city officials, the suspect, who will face arraignment on firearm and assault charges next Monday, was armed with a shotgun, handgun, and multiple knives. They suggested that the individual may have been a guest at the hotel.

"Law enforcement exchanged gunfire with the individual," Washington police chief Jeffery Carroll reported to the media. "A U.S. Secret Service uniformed division officer was struck in his vest. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. He appears to be in good spirits."

Trump also disclosed that authorities had searched the suspect's apartment, adding, "I guess he lives in California."

Late Saturday, FBI agents were photographed outside a residence in Torrance, California. The area around the two-story brown house was cordoned off with police tape. Multiple U.S. news outlets identified the suspect as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen from Torrance, located in Los Angeles County.

When pressed about Allen's identity, the FBI declined to confirm details, stating they had nothing further to add beyond information provided earlier during news conferences.

A LinkedIn profile under the name "Cole Allen" featured an image resembling the suspect and listed him as a mechanical engineer, computer scientist, game developer, and teacher.

Tactical Response at Annual Gala

Tactical units armed with guns took positions on the stage where Trump had been seated during the dinner before his evacuation. Police swiftly cordoned off the hotel, with helicopters hovering overhead as the situation unfolded.

The incident occurred after the welcoming address and before Trump's scheduled remarks. Cabinet members were ushered out first as confusion and concern spread among guests.

One administration official, Mehmet Oz, remarked, "Shots fired upstairs," as he was hurriedly escorted out by security personnel.

The Correspondents' Association extended an invitation to Trump despite his frequent criticisms of the media. Unlike previous presidents, Trump never attended the gala during his time in office.
