Scientists Discover a Major Flaw In How We Search For Life On Other Planets

One of the leading assumptions in the quest for alien life is being reconsidered after new research indicated there might be a big mistake in the way humans search for habitable worlds. Astronomers have been searching for planets in the so-called “habitable zone” for decades where the temperature could be such that liquid water can exist. But scientists now think this approach could be too simplistic in its understanding of the extremely complex environment in which life would actually thrive and evolve. It may also have a profound impact on the search for signs of life in the universe, and on the selection of planets for additional exploration.
