Moon-Sighting Committee to Meet on Tuesday

Kuwait’s moon-sighting committee is scheduled to convene on Tuesday at 5:30 pm at the Supreme Judicial Council to observe the crescent moon that signals the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.

The meeting will determine the official start date of Ramadan in Kuwait, in line with Islamic tradition, which relies on the physical sighting of the crescent moon to mark the beginning of the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

If the crescent moon is successfully sighted on Tuesday evening, Wednesday will be declared the first day of Ramadan. However, if the moon is not visible, the holy month will commence on Thursday instead.

Each year, the committee gathers religious scholars and officials to verify sightings and issue an official announcement, which is closely followed by residents across the country.

Ramadan is a sacred month observed by Muslims worldwide through fasting from dawn to sunset, increased prayer, and acts of charity. The official confirmation of its start is a significant moment for families and communities preparing for the month of reflection and spiritual devotion.
