The data also shows that 75% of cases brought to court resulted in convictions. Of the 3,497 court rulings issued, 2,639 led to guilty verdicts and pointing to a relatively high conviction rate.

But the situation on the ground remains deeply concerning. A government source confirmed that domestic violence cases in Kuwait have doubled in the past two years, marking a significant and alarming rise.

Legal Scrutiny and Rising Pressure

This sharp increase has triggered renewed scrutiny of Kuwait’s current legal protections. Human rights advocates and social groups are now calling for urgent reforms to existing laws, demanding better safeguards for victims and stricter accountability for abusers.

The spike in cases underscores the urgent need to enforce domestic violence laws more effectively and put stronger support systems in place for survivors, especially women who remain the most vulnerable.

Accused and Resolved Cases

Over the five-year period, a total of 11,051 individuals were accused in domestic violence cases. Men made up the majority, with 7,850 accused, while 3,201 were women.

Interestingly, not all cases reached the courts. About 4,057 cases were referred for prosecution, while 3,992 were resolved through amicable settlements, often involving family intervention or mediation.
