The Ministry confirmed the incident on Friday, stating that the attack targeted critical infrastructure essential for the nation's electricity supply and water production. According to Ministry spokesperson Engineer Fatima Hayat, technical and emergency teams mobilized immediately upon detection of the breach. These teams executed pre-approved contingency plans designed to mitigate the impact of such incidents and ensure the continuity of essential services.
The response was conducted in close coordination with security forces and relevant government authorities to secure the perimeter and manage the aftermath of the strike. While the facility sustained physical damage, the rapid deployment of emergency protocols helped prevent a wider disruption to the national grid or water network.
This incident marks the second major security breach in Kuwait within a single day. Earlier on Friday, a drone strike ignited a fire at the Mina Al Ahmadi refinery, one of the country's largest oil processing facilities. That fire was successfully brought under control by emergency responders, and officials reported no injuries in connection with the refinery attack.
The back-to-back nature of the strikes on critical energy and utility infrastructure has heightened security alerts across the region. Authorities are currently investigating the full extent of the damage at the desalination plant and assessing the timeline for repairs, though immediate service interruptions have reportedly been minimized due to the swift emergency response.
