Big Win for India at Oscars 2023 With RRR and The Elephant Whisperer

The 95th Academy Awards held on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, was a day of celebrations for India as it won big during the Oscars.

The blockbuster Telugu-language film RRR's song Naatu Naatu created history by being the first Indian film song to win an Oscar. 'Naatu Naatu', composed by MM Keeravani, with lyrics by Chandrabose, and vocals by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava defeated superstars like Lady Gaga and Rihanna to win Best Original Song. 

Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, who served as a presenter this year appeared on the Oscars stage to announce the performance of RRR's "Naatu Naatu", and gave a special mention briefing the audience about the song to cheers and applause. Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava, together with dancer Lauren Gottlieb, performed the song live during the Oscar ceremony.

This year's Oscars created history in many ways than the top song from S. S. Rajamouli's hit "RRR," which had people all over the world dancing to its music. "The Elephant Whisperers," which was produced and directed by Guneet Monga, also won the Best Documentary Short Award. 

The Elephant Whisperers is the first Indian film to win an Oscar in this category. The House That Ananda Built and An Encounter With Faces, which competed for this category's Best Documentary Short in 1969 and 1979, respectively, and The Elephant Whisperers is the third film to get a nomination. 

Today was the day of reinforcing India on the map, cinematically. Naatu Naatu being performed on the #oscars2023 stage, Deepika Padukone presenting, and the Oscar going to The Elephant Whisperers.
