The Interior Ministry issued a warning to the public about scammers sending SMS texts requesting that recipients pay traffic penalties via a supplied link or face higher charges.

The ministry said that it does not send messages threatening people with higher fines if they fail to pay fines for moving violations.

These are scamming operations that fool individuals using a website that is a copy of the ministry's website.

It was highlighted that only those who violate traffic laws using the Sahel application on the official digital network receive alert messages about their violations.

The Interior Ministry urged the public to make sure that they deal with the ministry’s official website before any payment operation.
