Reports: Trabzonspor Set to Sign Mohamed Salah After Hijacking Besiktas Talks

Egyptian football icon Mohamed Salah is reportedly close to joining Turkish club Trabzonspor.

The legendary winger, who recently left Liverpool, was in advanced talks with rivals Besiktas. However, those negotiations have collapsed, and Trabzonspor has now stepped in to secure his signature.

A Sudden Turn in Transfer Talks

According to prominent football transfer expert Santi Auna, Trabzonspor made a decisive move to sign the Egyptian star. The sudden shift has changed the direction of Salah's next career step.

Auna stated, “Trabzonspor is on the verge of hijacking Mohamed Salah’s contract. After entering detailed negotiations with his agent, the club has nearly reached a full agreement with the player. As a result, Besiktas has halted negotiations despite having reached a verbal agreement with Salah’s side for a 1+1-year contract worth 10 million euros after tax annually, including a 2 million euros bonus.”

Although the transfer has not been officially announced, Salah is expected to arrive at Trabzonspor soon, marking a dramatic twist in Turkish football.

Salah's Legendary Career and Current Status

Salah bid farewell to Liverpool in May after an incredible nine-year spell. Since then, he has represented the Egyptian national team in the World Cup qualifiers. He remains one of the most high-profile free agents ahead of the 2026-2027 season.

During his historic time in England, Salah made 401 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 257 goals and assisting 119 times. He is Liverpool’s all-time top scorer in the Premier League, a three-time Golden Boot winner, and a key player in their Premier League and UEFA Champions League triumphs.

Strong Interest from Turkey and the GCC

As one of the Arab world's greatest sports stars, Salah attracted significant interest from the Saudi Pro League and Major League Soccer (MLS). However, Turkish clubs made the most serious offers.

Besiktas had hoped to pair Salah with their new signing, former Arsenal star Leandro Trossard. With the deal falling through, Besiktas will now have to prepare to face Salah as a formidable opponent in the Turkish league.
