Kuwait and Iraq Hold Talks on Security and Bilateral Ties
Top officials discussed cooperation, regional stability, and stronger relations during Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein’s visit.
Kuwait and Iraq held high-level talks on Thursday as Iraqi Foreign Minister Dr Fuad Hussein visited Kuwait on an official trip, with both sides focusing on stronger bilateral relations, security coordination and regional stability.
First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Saud Al-Sabah met Dr Hussein and his accompanying delegation. The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior Major General Abdul Wahab Al-Wahib and several senior security officials.
According to a Ministry of Interior statement, the two sides discussed areas of joint cooperation and reviewed issues of common interest. They also exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments.
Both sides stressed the importance of continued coordination and cooperation to support security and stability, and to further develop relations between the two brotherly countries.
Earlier, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah received Dr Hussein and his delegation at the start of the visit. His Highness welcomed the Iraqi delegation and wished them success. The meeting was attended by Head of the Crown Prince’s Diwan Sheikh Thamer Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and several senior officials.
His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah also received the Iraqi foreign minister and his delegation. The talks covered bilateral relations and recent regional developments.
The two sides also reviewed ways to expand cooperation between Kuwait and Iraq. They exchanged views on regional and international issues of shared concern, and discussed efforts to promote regional security, peace and stability.
The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Acting Head of the Prime Minister’s Office Sheikh Khalid Mohammad Al-Khalid Al-Sabah, Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs Ambassador Abdulaziz Ahmad Al-Adwani, Kuwait’s Ambassador to Iraq Hassan Mohammad Zaman and Assistant Foreign Minister for Strategic and Security Planning Salem Al-Shibili.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah held talks with Dr Hussein during the visit. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Sheikh Jarrah hosted a working dinner in honour of the Iraqi minister and his delegation, with discussions focusing on bilateral ties and the latest developments in the region. — KUNA
