According to Al Qabas Arabic daily, the suspects are accused of accepting bribes from commercial firms in exchange for giving their products preferential placement on shelves in local co-ops. This goes against the regulatory guidelines that govern Kuwait’s cooperative system, which is meant to ensure fairness and transparency.

The General Administration of Criminal Investigations and the Criminal Investigation and Licensing Department led the operation, which is part of an ongoing government campaign to root out corruption and misuse of public funds.

Authorities revealed that cooperative officials received illicit payments from businesses and middlemen looking for commercial advantages. Investigators also uncovered that some of the arrested individuals acted as couriers to deliver the bribe money.

All 19 suspects have reportedly confessed during questioning and have now been referred to the Public Prosecution for further legal action.

The Ministry of Interior stressed that it remains committed to protecting the integrity of Kuwait’s cooperative system. It also warned that anyone trying to exploit the system or damage public trust will face firm and swift consequences.
