Kuwait has arrested an Egyptian expatriate and a Kuwaiti woman accused of selling and using counterfeit government stamps at a government hospital and taking money that should have gone to the state, the Interior Ministry said.
The arrests were made by the Criminal Police Department after an investigation into the misuse of government stamps at the hospital where both suspects worked.
Police first arrested the Egyptian expatriate, who worked as a security guard at the hospital. Several counterfeit government stamps were found with him, the ministry said.
During questioning, information led investigators to a Kuwaiti woman working at the same hospital. She was arrested, and more counterfeit stamps were found in her possession.
Investigators also said they saw her completing a transaction using a fake government stamp in exchange for money.
According to the ministry, the woman admitted that she used her job for financial gain. She allegedly handled official transactions using counterfeit stamps while keeping genuine stamps for use in other transactions.
She also reportedly removed genuine stamps that had already been used from stored documents and used them again in new transactions.
Authorities seized the counterfeit stamps and other items linked to the case. Both suspects and the seized materials were referred to the relevant authorities for legal action.
The Interior Ministry said security teams will continue to investigate any attempt to misuse government procedures for personal gain and protect public funds and official documents from fraud and abuse.
