Scituate Man Accused of Killing Maine Man Ordered Held Without Bail

A man from Scituate, Massachusetts, has been charged with murder after the body of his friend, a 27-year-old chef from Portland, Maine, was found wrapped in blankets and taped inside a car parked outside South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. The case has garnered widespread attention as new details about the cause of death and circumstances leading to the discovery emerge.

Discovery of the Body at South Shore Hospital

On August 23, 2025, hospital staff found the deceased inside a black Honda Civic parked in front of the emergency room entrance at South Shore Hospital. The car, with Maine license plates, contained the body wrapped in blankets and secured with duct tape. The incident prompted a prompt police investigation and a search for the person responsible.

Arrest and Charges Filed Against Christopher Caron

Christopher Caron, 42, a Scituate resident, turned himself in to authorities shortly after the discovery. He has been charged with murder in connection with the death of Declan Perry, the 27-year-old Maine chef whose body was found at the hospital. Caron was arraigned in Hingham District Court and entered a plea of not guilty.

Cause of Death and Autopsy Findings

An autopsy conducted on Perry revealed that he had died from strangulation and sustained multiple blunt force injuries, contrary to Caron's claims that Perry suffered a drug overdose. Prosecutors detailed severe trauma to Perry’s chest, head, face, and neck, concluding that these injuries were inflicted before death.

Investigators revealed that Caron and Perry had discussed using fentanyl and cocaine together shortly before the incident. They were at Caron’s residence when the alleged assault occurred. Despite attempts by a friend to revive Perry using Narcan, an opioid overdose reversal drug, he remained unresponsive and passed away.

Transportation of the Body and Police Response

After Perry’s death, Caron reportedly loaded the wrapped body into his car with assistance from neighbors misled into believing it was a mannequin. He drove the vehicle to South Shore Hospital, alerted staff to the body, then fled the scene on foot. Police pursued and took him into custody later.

Family and Community Reaction

Declan Perry’s father, Brendan Perry, expressed profound grief over the loss of his son, describing him as a beloved family member and friend. The community mourns the tragic death of the young chef, remembered for his warmth and passion for his craft.

Ongoing Investigation and Court Proceedings

Police continue gathering evidence from Caron’s residence and have seized items relevant to the case. Caron is scheduled to return to court on September 29, with prosecutors preparing to present their case based on forensic findings and witness testimonies.
