Muslims break their fast at sunset as it is the time when the Maghrib prayer is offered, which is the fourth of the five daily prayers in Islam. Sunset is considered an auspicious time for Muslims as it marks the end of the day and the beginning of the night.
Moreover, fasting during the daylight hours of the month of Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, and it is believed to be a way to purify the body and soul, increase self-discipline, and become closer to God. Therefore, breaking the fast at sunset holds significant spiritual and cultural significance for Muslims.
The meal that breaks the fast is called iftar, and it is traditionally done by eating dates and drinking water, following the example of Prophet Muhammad. After the iftar meal, Muslims usually perform the Maghrib prayer, and then they continue with their evening meal, which is known as Suhoor.
