Apple's first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, is facing early durability concerns. Several new owners have shared photos online showing damaged inner displays shortly after unboxing the device.

Images posted on Reddit and MacRumors forums show cracks concentrated around the center hinge. Some affected screens also show a bright line of white pixels across the display. While reports are appearing online, it is not yet clear how widespread the problem is.

One owner in Australia shared that their screen cracked after just six hours of use and fewer than 20 folds. The user stated on Reddit that they felt something under the display near the internal hinge while opening the phone, followed by a cracking sound as the inner screen broke.

The owner noted that there were no external scratches or visible marks on the body to suggest the phone was dropped or that debris was trapped inside.

Apple Replaces Damaged iPhone Duo On the Spot

The Australian owner initially contacted Apple support online. Apple offered an express replacement option, but it required a full-cost hold on the user's credit card without a clear delivery date.

Instead, the customer visited a local Apple Store. Store staff apologized for the issue and immediately provided a brand-new replacement device on the spot.

While the customer praised Apple for their polite and fast in-store customer service, they expressed disappointment at having to visit a retail store on the launch day of a premium device.

Reddit moderators later verified the customer's report after reviewing official Apple store documentation and photographs. The verification confirmed the damaged device and its replacement, though it did not determine the exact cause of the hardware failure.

Similar Issues Reported Across Global Markets

Reports and images of cracked iPhone Duo screens are also appearing across global social media platforms, including videos of display units in China.

Tech commentator @flyosity noted on X that they observed multiple photos of the same hinge issue, along with several videos on TikTok demonstrating screen failures.

While these images show similar damage along the folding hinge, social media posts do not show the exact percentage of affected phones overall.

Meanwhile, tech reviewers at MacRumors reported that their test units survived repeated folding tests without any display damage. However, these durability tests involved a limited number of devices.

What Is Causing the iPhone Duo Screen Damage?

Because the damage appears in the exact same spot across multiple devices, tech experts speculate that an internal hinge component may be applying pressure to the flexible screen. However, this theory remains unconfirmed.

It is currently unclear whether the screen cracks are caused by a manufacturing defect, a design flaw, or accidental handling. It is also unknown if the problem is limited to a specific production batch.

Apple has not yet issued an official public statement regarding the cause of these display failures. Further technical testing and official updates will be required to see if this is an isolated incident or a broader hardware issue.
