Easter Island is home to around 1,000 stone figurines known as moai sculptural heads. Some of the statues measure 33 feet high and weigh some 86 tonnes, making their movement to various parts of Easter Island inconceivable, and for almost a century, the mystery of how they ended up there has made scientists curious about their origin. A team of researchers now thinks that they have finally cracked how the people of Rapa Nui managed to transport the monolithic heads across rough land.
