Paris Saint-Germain Win French Super Cup in Kuwait
Les Rouge et Bleu lift their 14th Trophée des Champions title in a thrilling showdown at Jaber Al-Ahmad Stadium.
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) secured the 2025 Trophée des Champions — the French Super Cup — with a dramatic 4–1 penalty shootout victory over rivals Olympique de Marseille at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium on 8 January 2026.
After a 2-2 draw in regulation time in front of more than 52,000 fans, PSG rose to the occasion in the shootout to lift the trophy, marking their 14th title in the competition’s history and extending their dominance in French football’s traditional curtain-raiser.
Thrilling Match Packed With Drama
PSG drew first blood early when Ousmane Dembélé calmly chipped the ball over Marseille goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli in the 13th minute, giving Les Rouge et Bleu the lead. Yet Marseille fought back in the second half, earning a penalty in the 76th minute that Mason Greenwood converted to level the score.
Marseille then appeared to take the lead when PSG defender Willian Pacho’s own goal put them ahead in the 87th minute, only for Gonçalo Ramos to snatch a dramatic equaliser deep in stoppage time and force extra drama via penalties.
Penalty Heroics Seal the Victory
In the ensuing shootout, PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier delivered pivotal saves, stopping Marseille attempts and setting the tone for his team’s success. PSG players Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes and Désiré Doué successfully converted their spot-kicks, with Doué’s kick clinching the trophy.
Chevalier’s heroics and PSG’s composure from the penalty spot capped a memorable night for the Parisian side, which continues its strong tradition in domestic super cup action.
PSG’s Continued Super Cup Dominance
The victory underscores PSG’s status as the most successful club in the Trophée des Champions; the title adds to their growing collection of domestic honours and comes as they prepare for another competitive season in Ligue 1 and European competitions.
For Marseille, the narrow loss in Kuwait City marked another close call in their quest for silverware, but the spirited performance highlighted the intensity of one of French football’s most storied rivalries.
