An Iraqi writer based in the UK, Nusaibah Younis, has been shortlisted for the 2025 Women’s Prize for Fiction.
Younis’ book ‘Fundamentally’ has been shortlisted alongside five other novels for the £30,000 ($38,700).
The book is about a young woman who starts a UN job in Baghdad, helping rehabilitate ISIS brides. The novel was published in February this year and received positive reviews.
The other nominees are:
- American writer Miranda July
- British writer Elizabeth Strout
- Afghan-German writer Aria Aber
- Iranian-American writer Sanam Mahloudji
- Dutch-Israeli writer Yael van der Wouden
The Women’s Prize for Fiction was established in 1996 and is one of the UK’s most prestigious literary awards.
The 2025 award was open to English-language novels published in the UK between Apr. 1, 2024, and Mar. 31, 2025.
The winner will be announced on Jun. 12 alongside the Women’s Prize for Nonfiction.
