Public Required to Coordinate With Police Ahead of Hosting Gergean Events

Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior (MoI) has issued a public advisory urging citizens and residents planning Girgian (also spelled Gergean) celebrations to coordinate in advance with local police stations before hosting entertainment carts, mobile food trucks, bikes or outdoor shows in residential areas.

The announcement comes as preparations intensify for the traditional mid-Ramadan festivities, which see children and families visiting neighbourhoods for sweets, dates and celebrations.

In a statement issued on 25 February 2026, the ministry emphasised that prior coordination is key to ensuring public safety, orderly traffic flow and compliance with security measures. Residents who plan to bring in amusement carts, food vendors or set up activities outside their homes are required to contact their local police station ahead of time so that security personnel can arrange appropriate measures and provide necessary approvals.

The ministry’s call seeks to prevent disruptions such as road blockages, traffic congestion and potential hazards arising from spontaneous setups in narrow streets or busy residential zones. Authorities also highlighted that such coordination will help police to better manage crowds and oversee safety protocols during the celebrations.

Officials further reminded the public to adhere to all traffic regulations and security instructions during the Girgian period. Parents are encouraged to accompany and supervise their children as they visit neighbours, partaking in the festive ritual. Drivers are also urged to respect speed limits and exercise extra caution on internal roads, where children are likely to be present in larger numbers.

The Interior Ministry’s advisory forms part of a wider security and traffic readiness plan that includes strategic deployment of patrols across all governorates to support smooth, safe celebrations during both Ramadan and Girgian. The ministry stressed that cooperation with security personnel and adherence to guidelines are essential to reflect the nation’s commitment to order, safety and community harmony during special occasions.

As residents prepare for the joyful traditions of Girgian, the MoI’s guidance aims to balance festivity with public safety, ensuring that celebrations reflect Kuwait’s civic values and proceed without incident.
