Kuwait has officially blocked access to the popular online gaming platform Roblox in a move aimed at ensuring child safety.
The decision was announced by the Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA), which stated that it exercised its legal authority under the user protection protocol to enforce the ban.
According to CITRA, the action comes after numerous complaints from parents and relevant authorities who raised concerns over the potential risks Roblox poses to children. Issues cited include exposure to inappropriate content, interactions with strangers, and gameplay elements that may not be suitable for younger audiences.
The regulator emphasized that the ban is temporary and not intended to permanently block the game. Instead, the suspension will remain in place while Kuwaiti officials engage in discussions with the game’s developer. The talks will focus on removing offensive or inappropriate content and introducing enhanced safety measures to create a more secure environment for children.
Roblox, which allows users to create, share, and play games designed by other players, has become a global sensation, attracting millions of young users. However, concerns about online safety, unfiltered content, and a lack of parental controls have also made it a subject of scrutiny in several countries.
By taking this step, Kuwait is sending a strong message about prioritizing child protection in the digital age. The outcome of the negotiations with Roblox’s developer will determine when and how the platform may return to the country—potentially with stricter safeguards in place for its youngest players.
