Astronomers, at last, have nailed down a big step forward: a far away, brutally hot super-Earth seems to have this thick, air-like wrap over what is essentially rocky ground. They point to 55 Cancri e, and it gives a pretty unusual view into how rocky exoplanets keep volatile atmospheres even while their star is blasting them with intense radiation.
