Rolls Royce to Provide Backup Power Supply at Kuwait Airport T2
Rolls-Royce secures critical infrastructure role in Kuwait airport expansion with high-capacity back-up power systems.
Rolls‑Royce has secured a key contract to provide a robust emergency power supply system for the new Terminal 2 at Kuwait International Airport. The agreement calls for the delivery of seven MTU-brand backup generators, each based on the 20-cylinder Series 4000 DS 3600 diesel platform.

These high-capacity gensets are being installed to serve critical infrastructure within the new terminal, including the main catering building and the airport’s central energy systems. The Terminal 2 expansion supports Kuwait’s ambition to handle an initial 25 million passengers per year—scalable to 50 million—under the country’s broader development agenda, Kuwait Vision 2035.
An important feature of the solution is its resilience to extreme environmental conditions. The MTU units are engineered to operate reliably in ambient temperatures up to 55 °C, aligning with the harsh climate conditions of the Gulf region. Delivery of the systems is scheduled for early 2026, followed by commissioning and handover.
By providing these backup power systems, Rolls-Royce not only reinforces its presence in mission-critical infrastructure markets but also underlines Kuwait’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted operations for its aviation hub. The airport’s expansion is one of the Gulf’s most ambitious and signals a strategic shift towards modernising the region’s air-travel infrastructure and energy resilience.
