Palestinian Journalist Plestia Alaqad Returns to Cairo for Special Book Signing and Talk

Palestinian journalist Plestia Alaqad returns to Cairo this Saturday, April 18, to mark the one-year anniversary of the release of her acclaimed memoir, The Eyes of Gaza: A Diary of Resilience. The event will take place at Diwan Bookstore in Heliopolis, beginning at 6:00 PM.

The evening will feature a special book signing followed by an intimate talk with CairoScene's Laila Shadid. During the session, Alaqad will discuss her experiences and the stories captured in her work, offering attendees a deeper understanding of the narrative behind the book.

The Eyes of Gaza, which has achieved New York Times bestseller status, compiles Alaqad's personal diary entries from her time reporting in Gaza following the events of October 7. The memoir provides an unfiltered look at life on the ground, documenting the devastation of streets, the conditions in overcrowded hospitals, and the profound pain endured by her community. Yet, beyond the tragedy, the book serves as a testament to resilience, capturing stories that refuse to be forgotten.

Alaqad's return to Egypt comes at a significant moment, allowing readers to engage directly with the author behind one of the most powerful accounts of the ongoing conflict. Her presence in Cairo offers a unique opportunity for the local literary community to connect with a voice that has brought global attention to the realities faced by Palestinians.

The event is open to the public, with book signing sessions scheduled immediately following the talk. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to secure their spots for this meaningful cultural gathering.
