Kuwait Announces Holiday for Prophet Muhammad's Birthday
Kuwait’s Cabinet announces a long weekend for public sector employees in honor of Prophet Muhammad’s birthday.
Kuwaiti authorities have officially announced that Thursday, September 4, 2025, will be observed as a public holiday for all ministries, government departments, and public institutions in honor of the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The decision was made during the Cabinet’s weekly meeting held on Tuesday, August 12. This holiday falls just before the regular weekend, resulting in a three-day break for many people, with normal government operations set to resume on Sunday, September 7.
The birthday of Prophet Muhammad, also known as Mawlid an-Nabi, is traditionally observed on the 12th of Rabi‘ al-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
While the exact date varies yearly in the Gregorian calendar due to the lunar cycle, the observance remains a deeply meaningful and widely recognized holiday in Muslim-majority countries, commemorating the Prophet’s life and legacy.
