Kuwait Airways to Resume Flights to Zurich After 45-Year Hiatus

Kuwait Airways has announced the resumption of direct flights between Kuwait and Zurich, marking the return of a long-dormant route after a 45-year hiatus. The national carrier will begin operating three weekly flights to Zurich Airport from June 12, 2026, reconnecting the Gulf nation’s capital with Switzerland’s largest city.

The route was last served by Kuwait Airways in December 1981, when the airline used Boeing 707 aircraft for its scheduled services. Since then, travellers between Kuwait and Zurich have had to rely on indirect connections via other carriers.

For the relaunch, Kuwait Airways will use its modern Airbus A321neo aircraft, known for improved fuel efficiency, passenger comfort and operational flexibility on medium-haul routes. The reintroduction of this connection reflects the airline’s broader strategy to expand its European network and meet rising demand for direct links between the Middle East and key global destinations.

The new service will operate three times per week, offering passengers more choice and convenience for both leisure and business travel. Non-stop flights are expected to significantly cut travel time compared with traditional one-stop routes.

Kuwait Airways’ decision to restore the Zurich link comes as part of an ongoing network expansion that includes other new destinations and enhanced frequencies. The move underscores the carrier’s efforts to strengthen international connectivity as travel demand rebounds across global markets.

The return of direct Kuwait–Zurich flights is also likely to support stronger ties between Kuwait and Switzerland in tourism, business and cultural exchange, offering travellers from both regions a seamless gateway for future journeys.
